Dongfeng Motor and the Italian government are in negotiations for the construction of a production unit for the Chinese brand in Italy.
According to “Automotive News Europe,” which cites sources close to the negotiations, the process of installing a factory for the Chinese brand in Italy seems to be well underway, and the Rome government is even considering the possibility of joining Dongfeng in this investment, which aims to establish a production center for the whole of Europe, with a minority stake.
In recent times, the Italian government has been negotiating with several automotive brands to install production units in Italy in order to increase national car production to 1.3 million vehicles per year, compared to less than 800,000 registered in 2023.
In addition, the Rome government led by Giorgia Meloni has been negotiating with Stellantis to possibly increase the group’s annual Italian production to one million units by the end of the decade.
It should be noted that Salvador Caetano Auto announced earlier this year that it is the representative in Portugal and Spain for brands of Dongfeng Motor Corporation – a leader and pioneer in R&D in the automotive sector and one of the largest automotive groups in China.
