The President of the USA, Donald Trump, reaffirmed that he is considering imposing a 10% tariff on China as a form of retaliation for the entry of fentanyl into the USA via Mexico and Canada.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, the new President of the USA also mentioned that European countries will also be subject to customs tariffs, stating that it is “the only way” for the United States to be “treated as they should be”.
“The European Union (EU) is very bad for us. They treat us very poorly. They do not accept our cars or our agricultural products. In fact, they do not accept a lot of things”, said Donald Trump, adding that, for this reason, they will be targets of customs tariffs.
The new American president expressed tariff threats to China and the European Union, a day after taking office, and after announcing in his inauguration speech that he was considering imposing a 25% tariff on products made in Canada and Mexico, which has already led the VW Group to warn about the financial impact that the decision may have.
