The BYD Dolphin Surf achieved the highest rating of five stars in the latest round of tests by Euro NCAP, the leading independent vehicle safety assessment program in Europe.
The model, which is available in the national market in three versions, stood out in the Euro NCAP tests for its good protection in side impact tests against a barrier and in more severe side impact tests against a pole, achieving a score of 82% in Adult Occupant protection, while Child protection received a rating of 86%.
In terms of protection for the most vulnerable road users, the Dolphin Surf received a rating of 76%, while in terms of assistance and safety systems, BYD’s 100% electric city car achieved 77%, highlighting the effectiveness of the AEB in response to other vehicles, as well as the performance of the Driver Fatigue Monitoring (DFM) system and the Emergency Lane Keeping Assistant (ELKA).
“Achieving a five-star Euro NCAP rating in a compact vehicle is particularly challenging, but this result proves that, with the BYD Dolphin Surf, there are no compromises when it comes to safety”, said Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD.
It should be noted that the Dolphin Surf is available in the national market with three versions. The entry-level variant, Active, features the 30kWh Blade Battery that powers an electric motor with 88 hp, and has a range of up to 220 km, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.1 seconds.
The Boost and Comfort versions, which are the most powerful, are equipped with a 43.2kWh battery that allows the electric motor to provide two power levels, 88 hp and 155 hp, announcing a range of up to 322 km in the combined WLTP cycle, while in the city it reaches a range of 507 km. The most powerful version of the Dolphin Surf also announces an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds.
In terms of charging, the new Dolphin Surf allows for DC charging of 65kW for the Active version and 85kW for the Boost and Comfort variants, meaning that, regardless of the battery capacity, it can charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.
