Daisy Ridley’s highly anticipated film, Young Woman and the Sea, is set to make waves as it hits theaters. In a surprising move, Disney+ has decided to give the film a limited theatrical release, starting on May 31. Test screenings have garnered high praise, with the film scoring in the “high 90s.” This success has prompted Disney+ to launch a marketing campaign to build anticipation for the release.

Young Woman and the Sea boasts an impressive cast, including Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Christopher Eccleston, and Jeanette Hain. Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film tells the captivating story of Gertrude Ederle, an American swimming champion who achieved gold at the 1924 Olympics.

Daisy Ridley, known for her iconic role as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, continues to captivate audiences with her talent. Having led all three films in the franchise, each surpassing $1 billion at the box office, Ridley’s return to the Star Wars universe is highly anticipated. She has also showcased her versatility in films such as the live-action Peter Rabbit series, Murder on the Orient Express, Chaos Walking, and Sometimes I Think About Dying. Last year, Ridley impressed with her performances in The Marsh King’s Daughter and The Inventor. Audiences can look forward to seeing her in the upcoming film, Magpie, set to release in 2024.

Disney+ has typically reserved their projects for streaming, but Young Woman and the Sea breaks the mold by receiving a theatrical release. This decision marks a significant shift for the streaming giant, hinting at future possibilities for other projects. With a Mandalorian and Grogu film also in the works, it seems Disney+ is exploring new avenues to bring their content to audiences.

Overall, Young Woman and the Sea promises to be a groundbreaking film, showcasing Daisy Ridley’s talent and captivating storytelling. Audiences can prepare to be swept away by this inspiring tale of triumph and determination.
