Denny Hamlin urges NASCAR to remember their duty in light of Austin Dillon scandal

Denny Hamlin has raised concerns about NASCAR penalizing Austin Dillon for causing a collision that resulted in him winning the race at Richmond. The return of NASCAR after the season break has been unexpectedly controversial due to Dillon’s actions. In the final corner of the race, Dillon intentionally crashed into the race leaders from Team Penske Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing to secure his spot in the playoffs.

Denny Hamlin, a veteran driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, discussed the incident on his podcast, Action Detrimental. He expressed his surprise at how NASCAR has allowed the officiating system to deteriorate to such an extent that they are now hesitant to punish drivers for such blatant maneuvers. Hamlin emphasized that if NASCAR wants to maintain its status as a premier league, strong officiating is crucial.

Hamlin also reminded NASCAR of their responsibility to uphold professionalism in the sport. He stressed that the sanctioning body needs to demonstrate to the entire racing community, including upcoming drivers, that there are certain boundaries that should not be crossed. Making an example out of Austin Dillon would send a clear message.

Furthermore, Hamlin questioned NASCAR’s stance if they choose not to take action in the coming days. He urged the sport to clarify where the line is drawn in terms of drivers’ actions. Hamlin wants NASCAR to address whether drivers can do as they please without facing any consequences. Until the right decision is made, the sport will not be taken seriously.

With his claims, Denny Hamlin has made a compelling argument. NASCAR must step up and do what is right. Imposing a significant penalty on Dillon is necessary to send a message to the rest of the racing grid.
