Denny Hamlin went through a series of unfortunate incidents during the Atlanta Cup race. The No: 11 team from Joe Gibbs Racing, known for their success in Superspeedway races, had a disappointing performance on Sunday, finishing outside the top-15 for the second consecutive time. Hamlin’s problems were caused by three collisions that occurred at different stages of the race.
During the first stage, Hamlin collided with a former teammate’s car, the No: 8 RCR Chevy, resulting in a spin. Despite this setback, he managed to recover and progress in the race, only to be involved in another accident on the last lap of the second stage. This time, it was with another former teammate, driving the No: 22 Penske Ford.
The last accident that Hamlin was involved in involved the Stewart Haas Racing car, leading NASCAR to interrupt the race with a red flag. Hamlin expressed his frustration at constantly finding himself in these chaotic situations during his podcast, Action Detrimental. He even admitted to feeling cursed by these unfortunate incidents.
When discussing his collision with Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion, Hamlin explained that he initially believed he had enough space when moving from the middle lane to the inside lane, which Busch was using. However, he was caught off guard by the RCR driver, causing him to spin.
Heading to Las Vegas, which is Busch’s hometown, Hamlin hopes to recover and secure a victory. As the preseason favorite for the championship, he is expected to overcome these setbacks and set a positive tone for the rest of the season.
