Denny Hamlin on the Brink: Could 2025 Be the Year He Finally Shatters the Playoff Curse?

As the NASCAR playoffs loom, all eyes are on Denny Hamlin, who enters the high-stakes competition seated comfortably in third place with a +23 advantage. The 2025 season has already proven to be a standout for the #11 driver, marked by four exhilarating victories and an impressive tally of seven top-five finishes. This surge mirrors his stellar performance from 2020, when he clinched six wins and made it to the coveted Final 4.

During a riveting episode of the Happy Hour podcast, NASCAR insiders discussed Hamlin’s potential to finally break the notorious playoff curse that has haunted him for years. Kevin Harvick raised the question on everyone’s mind: Is this the year Hamlin makes history? Katelyn Vincie, co-host of the podcast, was quick to endorse Harvick’s theory, asserting, “When I look at the body of work over the whole season, I think that he has shown probably the most consistency.”

Despite a recent race that saw everything go awry for Hamlin’s team, Vincie remains optimistic. “Last weekend was not a representation of that. Everything that could go wrong kind of went wrong for the #11,” she acknowledged. Yet, her enthusiasm shines through as she adds, “But yeah, I think this could be the year finally for the #11.”

Harvick didn’t stop there, also analyzing the playoff prospects of fellow competitors Kyle Larson and William Byron. He expressed concerns about the current form of both Hendrick Motorsports drivers, noting that while Larson has had some solid finishes, he lacks the explosive speed that fans have come to expect. Meanwhile, Byron’s performance has been a rollercoaster, described by Harvick as “hit or miss,” plagued by speed issues and critical mistakes.

As the playoffs draw near, Harvick emphasizes that the ultimate outcome will hinge on which drivers can minimize their errors—both on the racetrack and in the pits. The tension is palpable as every decision could tip the scales between glory and defeat.

Hamlin, a veteran of Joe Gibbs Racing, has not only made headlines for his driving but also for his outspoken views on the playoff format itself. In a candid discussion with Dale Earnhardt Jr., he voiced his criticisms, advocating for a round format that he believes would better honor true champions. “Not that there’s been a champion that’s not been deserving, but the larger the sample size, the more indicative it is of your top drivers who perform week in, week out,” Hamlin argued passionately.

He further proposed the inclusion of a championship round, suggesting that with so many compelling stories in the sport, broadcasters could easily make it work. As the playoffs approach, Hamlin’s hopes are as high as the stakes, and fans are left wondering: Could 2025 finally be the year he conquers his playoff demons? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—the world of NASCAR is about to witness an electrifying showdown.
