NASCAR Drama Unfolds: Will Denny Hamlin Get a Pass for Wife’s Labor While Ryan Truex Takes the Wheel?

NASCAR fans are on the edge of their seats as the question looms: Will Denny Hamlin be granted a waiver if Ryan Truex substitutes for him during his wife’s labor? The plot thickens as the Joe Gibbs Racing star contemplates missing the upcoming race in Mexico City to be by his fiancée, Jordan Fish’s side if she goes into labor.

According to section 17.6.2.1 of the NASCAR Rule Book, drivers must participate in every point race in the regular season to qualify for the playoffs. However, section 12.3.2.1.A allows exemptions for medical or personal reasons, which could apply to Hamlin’s situation. This waiver, typically given for significant life events like childbirth, would secure Hamlin’s postseason eligibility if he formally requests it.

The NASCAR veteran expressed his stance on the matter, stating, “I said from the very beginning, if she hasn’t had it by the time I need to leave for Mexico, then I’m not going to go to Mexico. I think that that’s the proper thing to do.” This decision aligns with NASCAR’s historical precedent of granting waivers for similar circumstances, ensuring fairness and understanding for drivers facing personal challenges.

In the event that Hamlin misses the race, Ryan Truex, a talented driver and younger brother of Cup veteran Martin Truex Jr., will take the wheel of the No. 11 Toyota Camry in what promises to be a thrilling international race in Mexico. While missing a race would impact Hamlin’s season, it would not jeopardize his playoff contention, preserving his wins, playoff points, and postseason qualification.

The anticipation builds as fans await news of Jordan Fish’s due date, originally set for June 1st. With the couple eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first son, Hamlin remains committed to prioritizing family over racing this weekend. As the NASCAR community rallies around the Hamlin-Fish family, the excitement and support for their growing brood are palpable.

As Hamlin navigates this personal milestone, his on-track performance remains formidable, securing his third win of the season and a coveted spot in the 2025 playoffs. With the championship in his sights, Hamlin’s balancing act between family and racing adds a compelling layer to his already impressive season.

Stay tuned as the NASCAR world watches with bated breath to see how this chapter unfolds for Denny Hamlin, Jordan Fish, and the newest addition to their racing family.
