Tyler Reddick did not secure victory in 2 to 3 races last year due to issues with pit stops.
Since the start of the 2021 season, the biggest issue faced by 23XI Racing has been their poor performance during pit stops. In the last three years, they have won five races, but their pit stop problems have cost them the same number or even more victories.
The most recent incident occurred at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last Sunday. Tyler Reddick, who had one of the fastest cars that day, finished just 0.4 seconds behind the winner. Pit stop issues played a significant role in his disappointment, consistently putting him at a disadvantage on the track.
Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI Racing, once again addressed this ongoing issue. He expressed his immense disappointment and acknowledged that the pit crew team has cost them two or three crucial victories since their debut.
“I definitely think this will be a talking point this weekend and in the hours ahead. But it’s a process. It’s incredibly frustrating. I know it’s frustrating. It’s keeping the guys at 23XI from getting to the finish line. There’s no doubt about that. There were at least 2-3 races last year where Tyler should have come out on top, but we made mistakes for him in the pits,” Hamlin said during an interview on the Action Detrimental podcast.
The veteran driver for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) continued to urge his team not to overreact to a single incident this season. He emphasized that the team has been working to improve their efficiency during pit stops in the preseason, and that this incident may just be an anomaly.
Heading into the next race in Phoenix, Reddick will be looking to redeem himself. However, both the No. 45 team and the No. 23 team need Hamlin to provide them with a reliable pit crew.
