The 2025 NASCAR season is already buzzing with intrigue, and one mystery looms larger than most: who will back Martin Truex Jr.’s Daytona 500 ride? After announcing his retirement from full-time competition, Truex handed over the reins of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) car to Chase Briscoe. Yet, in a surprising twist, the veteran revealed he’s not quite done with racing, setting his sights on the elusive Daytona 500 trophy.

But with no official announcement about his team for the Great American Race, fans and analysts are left speculating. Could Truex be gearing up for a Daytona comeback under the banner of Tricon Garage?

Truex Dismisses 23XI Rumors

While some believed Truex might land at 23XI Racing, especially given his close ties with teammate Denny Hamlin, the former champ has put those rumors to bed.

“No, it’s not. I’m not sure, honestly. I was told (Joe Gibbs Racing) is doing it somehow, so we’ll see,” Truex said, leaving fans to wonder what JGR has planned for its longtime star.

This statement fueled speculation that JGR might collaborate with another Toyota-affiliated team to field Truex’s entry, especially as the powerhouse team juggles its existing commitments.

The Tricon Garage Theory: A Plausible Solution

Among the swirling rumors, one name has surfaced repeatedly: Tricon Garage. Known for nurturing young talents under Toyota’s developmental program, the team has been linked to a potential partnership with JGR to field a Daytona 500 car for Truex. While neither party has confirmed the arrangement, fans on social media seem convinced.

One bold claim even suggested, “I have inside information that MTJ is running the 500 with Tricon Garage fielding the entry.” While speculative, this scenario aligns with Toyota’s strategic pipeline, which often blends veteran leadership with developmental goals.

The idea also makes logistical sense. Tricon could provide the branding and logistics, while JGR delivers a fully prepped car, allowing Truex to compete without disrupting the team’s core Cup Series operations.

Why Tricon Garage Makes Sense

Tricon Garage has a history of operating under the Toyota banner, grooming drivers like Corey Heim and Toni Breidinger. As a “little brother” to JGR, the team’s ties to the Toyota ecosystem run deep, making them a natural candidate to host Truex’s Daytona run.

“It’s believable if it’s pretty much a JGR-prepared car with Tricon’s name being written on the entry list instead,” one fan suggested, highlighting a potential loophole that would keep Truex firmly in Toyota’s camp without disrupting JGR’s primary roster.

The Legacy Motor Club and Ford/Chevy Options? Unlikely

With Toyota’s strong ties to Truex, a switch to Ford or Chevy seems far-fetched. Legacy Motor Club, another Toyota affiliate, is also seen as a long shot, as its developmental structure is less intertwined with JGR than Tricon’s.

“Seems legit if it’s not 23XI. Tricon seems to be closer to the JGR pipeline than Legacy,” a fan argued, reinforcing the theory that Tricon is the most logical partner.

Will Truex Shock Daytona?

If the Tricon Garage rumor proves true, it would mark a fascinating chapter in Martin Truex Jr.’s storied career. Competing under Tricon’s banner, but with JGR’s engineering muscle, would position him as a serious contender for the Daytona 500 trophy.

For now, fans must wait as the pieces of this puzzle fall into place. Whether it’s Tricon, another Toyota team, or a surprise option, one thing is certain: Martin Truex Jr.’s Daytona 500 plans are bound to turn heads.
