David Coulthard Declares Verstappen “Best of All Time” Amid Red Bull’s Struggles

David Coulthard

Max Verstappen, known for his fierce competitive spirit and aggressive racing style, has been hailed as the best Formula 1 driver of all time by former British racer David Coulthard. In a recent statement, Coulthard opted for Verstappen over seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, praising the Dutchman’s raw speed and dominance in the sport despite being only 27.

Verstappen, a three-time world champion since 2021 and leading the 2024 title race, continues to impress with his consistency and ability to outperform rivals. However, while Hamilton holds the joint record for the most world titles, Coulthard believes Verstappen’s achievements have surpassed even those of the Mercedes legend.

“[Max Verstappen] is arguably the best, not just of his generation but the best of all time,” Coulthard remarked, placing the Dutchman at the pinnacle of Formula 1 greatness.

Yet, while Verstappen’s talent is undeniable, there remains a significant challenge ahead for him to cement his legacy as the greatest of all time. He is currently chasing his fourth consecutive title, but his path has not been without obstacles. Red Bull’s recent struggles have created uncertainty in their title defense, with the team failing to secure a Grand Prix victory in the last eight races after dominating the first half of the season with seven wins from the opening 10 events.

Team principal Christian Horner acknowledged the team’s setbacks, particularly since the Spanish Grand Prix, and emphasized the need for improvement as they head into the crucial Sprint weekend in Austin. “It’s a sprint weekend so you’ve got to hit the ground running. The whole team has been working incredibly hard in understanding the issues,” Horner said.

With races in Austin and Mexico looming large, Red Bull’s performance in the coming weeks will play a pivotal role in determining Verstappen’s chances of securing another championship. The team’s recent struggles have been exploited by rivals, and their ability to bounce back will be key to maintaining their dominance.

For Verstappen, the upcoming races will be vital not only for his championship hopes but also in solidifying his place as one of the sport’s greatest drivers. As the battle intensifies, the Dutchman’s resilience and Red Bull’s response to their challenges will be under close scrutiny.
