The Pennzoil 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was a thrilling spectacle that saw Daniel Suarez narrowly miss out on victory to Josh Berry. Despite leading the race with 19 laps remaining, Suarez could not maintain his advantage, succumbing to Berry’s relentless pressure over three grueling laps. Suarez’s strong second-place finish, however, was a much-needed shot in the arm for his team, given his previous best was a modest 13th place at the Daytona 500.

For Suarez, the bitter taste of coming so close to victory was palpable. He candidly expressed his disappointment, stating, “It just sucks to be that close.” He was quick to acknowledge the efforts of his Trackhouse team and the No. 1 team, expressing pride in their collective attempt to clinch the race. However, Suarez conceded that they fell short in the final stages, needing to improve their short run performance.

The late caution in the race provided Suarez with a golden opportunity for victory. Running third behind Joey Logano and Berry, the yellow flag reset the field’s strategy, removing the prospect of a fuel mileage finish. Post the final pit stops, Suarez emerged as the race leader, courtesy of a coordinated four-tire stop by his No. 99 team.

Despite enjoying the advantage of clean air, Suarez struggled with the No. 99’s handling during the brief run. This gave Berry the opening he needed. Suarez admitted that the car was making excessive contact with the ground in Turns 1 and 2, which ultimately cost him the race. Despite the setback, Suarez remained positive, viewing the race as a learning experience and a platform to build upon.

Suarez’s performance was a bright spot for Trackhouse Racing at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He, along with teammate Ross Chastain, who finished fifth, led the charge for the team. Both drivers showcased their skill and tenacity, leading laps and clawing their way to the front from a mid-pack start. Suarez, with an average running position of 8.6, and Chastain, at 11.4, demonstrated the potential of Trackhouse Racing.

Suarez underlined the importance of their performance, particularly for the No. 99 team, which had been plagued by unfortunate incidents in recent races. He emphasized that the strong showing in Las Vegas was a significant confidence booster for the team. The thrilling Pennzoil 400 not only gave spectators an adrenaline rush but also set the stage for an exciting season ahead, with hopefuls like Suarez eager to make their mark.
