Local hero Daniel Suarez stunned the world with a jaw-dropping performance at the NASCAR Xfinity Series in Mexico City. Suarez, racing in a backup car and starting from the 39th position, managed a remarkable last-to-first victory that will be remembered for years to come.
“This is very special,” expressed Suarez, visibly emotional after the race. “This is very, very special to be here in front of my people. All these people have supported me for many, many years. They have loved me since my NASCAR Mexico days. And now we’re fighting with the big boys, so it feels good.”
The race took a dramatic turn in the final stage when Suarez, restarting in fourth place, fearlessly maneuvered a three-wide move into Turn 1 to claim the lead. Chaos erupted behind him, resulting in significant damage to the two fastest cars of the day, driven by Connor Zilisch and Ty Gibbs.
Despite a late caution and a fierce battle with Gray, Suarez managed to maintain his lead and secure the victory. Gray finished in a close second, followed by Austin Hill, Christian Eckes, and Zilisch in fifth place.
Suarez’s journey to victory was not without its challenges. Starting from the back of the pack, he steadily worked his way through the field, showcasing his exceptional skill and determination. This win marks his first Xfinity victory since the 2016 finale at Homestead, where he also clinched the championship.
With this triumph, Suarez adds another milestone to his racing career, further solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with on the track. The NASCAR Xfinity Series in Mexico City will forever be remembered as the stage where Daniel Suarez, against all odds, emerged victorious in spectacular fashion.
