Daniel Ricciardo Reflects on Potential End of F1 Career: ‘I’m in a Much Happier Place

After an underwhelming return to Formula 1 with Visa Cash App RB, Daniel Ricciardo’s stint came to an abrupt end following the Singapore Grand Prix. The former Red Bull star, who once shined as one of F1’s most promising talents, struggled to regain his form and was ultimately let go after a season and a half of inconsistent results.

Ricciardo’s Breaking Point

The turning point for Ricciardo appeared during the Singapore GP, where he failed to make it out of Q1. According to RB CEO, Bayer, this was the moment Ricciardo’s confidence shattered:

“That was a terrible moment. His world collapsed. We sat together in the office until two in the morning to discuss what to do. He then said that we should just let him finish the race.”

Ricciardo’s struggles were compounded by his inability to adapt to RB’s car, a far cry from the success he enjoyed during his peak years with Red Bull. Despite his departure, Bayer emphasized that their relationship remains amicable, with Ricciardo exploring new racing avenues outside of F1.

Fittipaldi’s Missed Opportunity

While Ricciardo’s exit leaves a void, Brazilian-American driver Enzo Fittipaldi was a close contender for the seat. According to Fittipaldi’s consultant, Pedro Boesel, Red Bull had high hopes for the young driver.

“Last year, Enzo had a meeting with the Red Bull top brass. He was called to this meeting, and they said that they had chosen him to drive for AlphaTauri at RB this year. He tested the Formula 1 [car].”

However, the deal ultimately fell through, and another driver secured the RB seat. Fittipaldi, who has shown promise in Formula 2, remains a strong candidate for future promotion within the Red Bull Driver Development Program.

Ricciardo’s Legacy and What’s Next

For Ricciardo, the end of his RB tenure closes another chapter in his turbulent F1 career. The 35-year-old hasn’t disclosed his next steps but hinted at pursuing opportunities in other motorsport categories.

Meanwhile, as the 2025 F1 season approaches, all eyes will be on RB’s new lineup and Fittipaldi’s progression in Formula 2, as the young driver aims to solidify his claim for a future seat in the pinnacle of motorsport.

With rookies debuting across teams like Alpine, Haas, and Mercedes, F1 continues to usher in fresh talent, leaving fans to wonder—will Fittipaldi’s chance come sooner rather than later? And can Ricciardo find redemption elsewhere?
