Danica Patrick’s Racing Legends: From Ayrton Senna to Jesus Christ — An Unconventional Dream Race Lineup Revealed

Race-car driver Danica Patrick talks up the importance of website development and entrepreneurship in an appearance on behalf of GoDaddy. Newly retired Nascar and Indycar driver Danica Patrick works out with GoDaddy employees in Scottsdale on Dec. 7, 2018. Patrick has a long relationship with the Valley company as spokeswoman. X8i3963

Danica Patrick, a motorsport trailblazer with a distinguished career in IndyCar and NASCAR, recently revealed her dream list of competitors she’d like to face off against in a race. Notably, this list included not only motorsport legends like Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Ayrton Senna, but also an unexpected spiritual figure: Jesus.

Patrick’s racing career showcases an unyielding tenacity and competitive spirit. The Wisconsin-born racer shattered glass ceilings in the male-dominated motor racing arena, securing a place in history as the first woman to clinch the Daytona 500 pole and win an IndyCar Series race: the Indy Japan 300. Despite her retirement from NASCAR in 2017, Patrick’s legacy remains vibrant and influential.

When asked about her dream competitors, Patrick didn’t shy away from naming some of the most iconic figures in motorsport history. Dale Earnhardt Sr., a revered NASCAR legend, and Ayrton Senna, a celebrated Formula 1 driver, both made it to her list. Her reverence for these motorsport giants reflects her deep respect for the sport and her desire to measure her skills against the best.

Yet, the most surprising name on Patrick’s list was not a racing icon. She intriguingly stated, “I think I’ll put Jesus in my car,” revealing a spiritual aspect of her persona that often remains outside the spotlight.

Patrick went on to explain this unconventional choice, drawing on her personal spiritual experiences. She expressed her connection with the energy of Jesus, viewing it as a source of support and love. This spiritual perspective adds a new dimension to her concept of a ‘dream race,’ transforming it from a mere pursuit of victory to a more profound and meaningful experience.

Patrick’s spiritual journey has been ongoing for several years. She discussed this evolution during a 2021 podcast with Chef Serena Poon, reflecting on a profound spiritual awakening that took place around 2015. She also regularly invites guests to her ‘Pretty Intense’ podcast to explore topics related to spirituality and religion.

Senna and Earnhardt Sr. are undoubtedly formidable competitors, respected and feared in equal measures for their aggressive driving styles. However, the inclusion of Jesus Christ in her dream race suggests Patrick’s hunger for a powerful presence in the car, a guiding force through the relentless challenges of motorsport.

Patrick’s career shift from IndyCar to NASCAR in 2011 was a significant and controversial move that shocked the motorsport community. She first stepped into the stock car racing series in 2010 at the Daytona International Speedway. Following a year in the Nationwide Series, she joined the Monster Energy Cup Series in 2012 with Stewart-Haas Racing.

Throughout her career, Patrick maintained a fair play ethos, refusing to resort to underhanded tactics for on-track advantage. Her pioneering spirit and relentless drive have undoubtedly paved the way for other female drivers, such as Hailie Deegan and Toni Breidinger, to break into the sport. With her exceptional career and spiritual exploration, Danica Patrick continues to inspire and intrigue both motorsport enthusiasts and a wider audience.
