Damon Hill Shockingly Reverses Course on Max Verstappen: Labels Him Among the Greatest in F1 History

Former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill has made a jaw-dropping U-turn on his opinion of Max Verstappen, hailing the Red Bull driver as a “phenomenon” of the sport and one of the greatest of all time. In a recent podcast, Hill showered praise on the Dutchman, emphasizing his effectiveness, preparedness, maturity, and speed, placing him in the same league as legends like Fangio, Clark, Senna, and Schumacher.

Despite previously criticizing Verstappen’s aggressive driving tactics, likening him to the infamous Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races, Hill now acknowledges the driver’s exceptional talent and impact on Formula 1. This revelation comes as Verstappen continues to impress in the 2025 season, currently sitting in third place with 124 points behind Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Verstappen’s recent victory at Imola showcased his remarkable skills, with a daring overtake on the first lap that solidified his dominance throughout the race. Hill, known for his outspoken opinions, lauded Verstappen’s clean and precise driving, contrasting it with what he perceives as reckless and aggressive maneuvers on the track that hinder the essence of true racing.

The former champion’s endorsement of Verstappen as a top-tier driver adds a new layer of excitement and debate to the F1 landscape, as fans and experts alike reevaluate their perspectives on the Red Bull prodigy. With the season heating up, all eyes are on Verstappen to see if he can maintain his stellar performance and live up to the lofty expectations set by Damon Hill’s surprising endorsement.
