The 2025 Formula 1 season promises to be historic, with Lewis Hamilton embarking on his new journey with Ferrari. Amid the anticipation, Damon Hill, the 1996 F1 World Champion, has voiced his faith in Hamilton’s ability to bring success to Maranello. Hill even suggested that this could be the “year of the GOAT,” cementing Hamilton’s status as one of the greatest of all time.

Hill’s Confidence in Hamilton

Taking to Instagram, Hill responded to Hamilton’s recent reflections about his move to Ferrari. Sharing Hamilton’s optimistic quotes, Hill captioned it with a rhetorical question, “Year of the GOAT?”

Hill also dismissed the narrative that Hamilton’s age—he turns 40 during the 2025 season—could hinder his performance. Instead, he highlighted Hamilton’s unparalleled experience and record-breaking legacy.

“Some are suggesting that, already at 39, his best days are behind him. I don’t believe that to be true. I really look forward to seeing what magic might happen at Ferrari.”

Hamilton’s Journey to Ferrari

Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari has been one of the most talked-about stories in F1 history. After 12 dominant years with Mercedes, during which he clinched seven World Championships and numerous records, the Briton is determined to bring the Italian team back to glory.

Ferrari enters 2025 with momentum, having finished second in the Constructors’ Championship in 2024. The team’s improved car performance has fueled optimism, and Hamilton’s addition to the squad is expected to bring the experience and leadership they need to mount a serious title challenge.

Challenges Ahead

Despite Ferrari’s progress, Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc will face stiff competition from Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. Red Bull, led by Max Verstappen, remains formidable, while McLaren, the 2024 Constructors’ Champions, is riding high on resurgence.

Internally, Ferrari must ensure their famed strategy team doesn’t falter under pressure, a weakness that has haunted them in recent years. The SF-25 chassis and its adaptability to Hamilton’s driving style will also be a critical factor in the team’s success.

A Season for the Ages

The 2025 season could define Hamilton’s legacy as he seeks an unprecedented eighth Drivers’ Championship. Pairing Hamilton with Leclerc creates a dynamic and formidable duo, but it also presents potential for intra-team rivalry. As Hill pointed out, Ferrari’s ability to manage this relationship and deliver consistent performance will be pivotal.

Hill’s confidence in Hamilton underscores the excitement around this partnership:

“If his best days are behind him, the Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes era will surely stand the test of time as one of the greatest success stories in the history of our sport. But I think there’s more magic to come.”

With the weight of history and the hopes of Ferrari fans worldwide resting on his shoulders, Hamilton’s debut season at Ferrari promises to be nothing short of spectacular. The stage is set for a showdown that could redefine the GOAT conversation in Formula 1.
