Denny Hamlin questions if NASCAR will take action regarding Joey Logano’s behavior on pit road during the Cook Out 400.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series resumed with a controversial finish at Richmond, leading to post-race drama that culminated in significant penalties. The Cook Out 400 saw Austin Dillon wrecking his way to victory, a move that cost him his automatic playoff berth. However, it was Joey Logano’s actions on pit road that stole the spotlight, resulting in a hefty $50,000 fine from NASCAR.

Logano, visibly frustrated after the race, revved his engine near the No. 3 crew on a live pit road, creating a dangerous situation. NASCAR deemed the move reckless and swiftly imposed the penalty. Dale Earnhardt Jr., a Hall of Famer and prominent voice in the sport, expressed his agreement with the sanction during a recent episode of his podcast.

Earnhardt Jr. acknowledged that while the crowded pit road may have contributed to the mixed reactions from fans, NASCAR made the right call by penalizing Logano. He emphasized that such behavior, regardless of a driver’s emotional state, should not be tolerated as it poses a significant safety risk.

During the podcast, Junior discussed the incident with another Hall of Famer, who, despite his close relationship with Logano, concurred that the fine was necessary, even if it seemed steep. Both agreed that the situation required a firm response to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As the dust settles from the Richmond race, it will be interesting to see how Logano reacts to the penalty and whether he acknowledges the gravity of his actions. With the NASCAR season heating up, all eyes will be on the Team Penske driver as he navigates the aftermath of this controversial incident.
