Dacia is preparing to launch a 100% electric model that will be priced below €18,000 and will be built in Europe.
According to “Automotive News Europe,” this news was shared on Thursday by Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault, during a conference call with analysts.
The new model may eventually replace the current Spring minicar, which is produced in China and is therefore subject to the European Union tariffs on electric vehicle imports from China.
The new low-cost Dacia will not be a Spring, and with it, Dacia aims to compete against the offensive from Chinese electric vehicle brands offering affordable electric models, such as Leapmotor.
The new Dacia model may start being sold in the second half of 2026, ahead of new fully electric models from European manufacturers, such as the VW ID1, which will be launched in 2027 at a price of around €20,000.
The new 100% electric Dacia model is expected to arrive in 2026, and it is anticipated that it will use many parts that will also be used in the Twingo, aiming to save on investments and development time.
