Hyundai entered the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 2014, but since then has only managed to win two constructor titles. For 2024, the Alzenau team shows ambition by bringing together two top drivers – they brought back Ott Tänak to pair him with Thierry Neuville as full-time drivers.
The team principal, Cyril Abiteboul, emphasized to Motorsport.com that he wants Hyundai to be inspired by the best, giving the concrete example of Red Bull in Formula 1 – structures oriented towards success:
– In my own history in motorsport, I have always been inspired by organizations that are all about a winning strategy, and everything is driven by results. I’m thinking of Red Bull and, honestly, if Ott [Tänak] were in Formula 1, I’m sure he would be driving for Red Bull Racing. That’s the inspiration I want to bring to Hyundai – I would like us to be the Red Bull Racing of the WRC and Ott could be our Max [Verstappen].’
