In a major revelation for the FIA Formula E series, ABT Cupra has been confirmed as the first customer for the collaborative project between Lola and Yamaha. Speculations about this agreement have been intense since Lola’s announcement of their entry as an FE manufacturer during the Tokyo E-Prix weekend. Cupra was in a hurry to find a new supplier after deciding to terminate their contract with Mahindra at the end of the season. They were determined to secure a new powertrain in time for the start of the GEN3 Evo era. Formula E stated that preparations are already underway behind the scenes, including a planned launch, testing, and an ambitious track test scheduled for June.
Thomas Biermaier, Team Principal of Cupra, expressed his satisfaction in finding two reputable partners for the future of Formula E. He acknowledged the challenges a new manufacturer faces when entering and establishing themselves in a world championship.
