Former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has accepted the job as the new head coach of the Washington Commanders, leaving the Dallas Cowboys with an attractive opening. This position offers the opportunity to coach superstar linebacker Micah Parsons and one of the best defenses in the NFL.
While many of the top candidates for defensive coordinator have already been hired, there are still options available. One of those options is Mike Zimmer, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings. The Cowboys have already interviewed Zimmer for the open position. Another potential candidate for Dallas is former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, who they plan to interview soon.
After a disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFL playoffs, the Cowboys entered the offseason with the expectation of significant changes. Head coach Mike McCarthy was initially believed to be on the hot seat and likely to be fired. However, he received a vote of confidence from the team’s brass and will be retained for next season.
Meanwhile, Quinn was expected to land the head coaching job with the Seattle Seahawks. However, Pete Carroll unexpectedly assumed another role with the franchise, opening the door for Quinn to join the Commanders. This leaves a void in Dallas that Rivera would have to fill if he is hired by the Cowboys.
