Helmut Marko, the long-term advisor of Red Bull, revealed last summer that the team had a contract ready for Norris to join Toro Rosso (now Racing Bulls) in 2019. However, McLaren got wind of this and blocked the deal.
Last spring, it was reported that Norris had at least once rejected the opportunity to join Red Bull, despite being offered a seat alongside Max Verstappen. Norris has repeatedly denied being fearful of competing with Verstappen in equal machinery.
