In the MotoGP qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas, Maverick Vinales from Aprilia dominated the session while championship leader Jorge Martin struggled due to two crashes. Vinales secured the first position on the grid, followed by rookie Pedro Acosta from Tech3 Gas Gas and COTA specialist Marc Marquez from Gresini Ducati. Martin was on his way to secure the provisional pole position, but he crashed twice, compromising his grid position. Despite the crashes, Martin managed to get back up and complete a competitive lap. However, he lost control again in the final sector. Vinales took advantage of Martin’s misfortunes and secured the provisional pole position. On his second lap, Vinales set an impressive time that none of his competitors could surpass. Acosta benefited from Martin’s crashes and secured second place, the best result among the KTM RC16 riders. Marquez, despite not improving on his second attempt, secured a place on the front row, just ahead of defending champion Pecco Bagnaia. Enea Bastianini and Martin will join Bagnaia on the second row, with Martin finishing 0.647s off Vinales’ record time after switching bikes. Aleix Espargaro, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Franco Morbidelli completed the third row. Marco Bezzecchi, Jack Miller, and Alex Marquez formed the fourth row. The Trackhouse, the new MotoGP team, will start their first grand prix at home with their bikes on the front of the fifth row, with Raul Fernandez and Miguel Oliveira narrowly missing out on Q2. Alex Rins, the top Yamaha rider, qualified in 15th place, followed by his teammate Fabio Quartararo, who crashed during his final attempt. Brad Binder also crashed in Q1 and failed to significantly improve on his second attempt, finishing in 17th place. Yamaha managed to compete with the European bikes in qualifying, but Honda once again struggled, with Johann Zarco, the top Honda rider, finishing in 19th place.
