In the FIA Formula 2 Championship, in the Sprint race held in Barcelona, Spain, on June 22, 2024, Juan Manuel Correa, from Dams team, achieved the third position on the podium. However, due to track limit violations, Correa received a post-race time penalty, resulting in Paul Aron taking his place on the podium.
Correa’s podium finish was particularly significant as it marked his first in five years after a previous accident. Unfortunately, his joy was short-lived as the five-second penalty after the race pushed him back to eighth place.
Correa was not the only one facing penalties for exceeding track limits during the Sprint race. Several other drivers also received penalties after the race. Dennis Hauger, for example, received a 10-second penalty for five track limit violations, causing him to drop to 12th place.
Similarly, Kimi Antonelli received a five-second time penalty for four track limit violations, resulting in a drop from 10th to 15th place. Franco Colapinto, from MP Motorsport team, faced a similar fate, accumulating five track limit violations and receiving two separate five-second time penalties. As a result, Colapinto’s position plummeted from 11th to 18th place.
Rafael Villagomez also suffered a setback as a five-second time penalty pushed him from his initial position to 17th place. Zane Maloney, after collecting two track limit violations during the race, received an additional five-second penalty for a sixth violation, causing him to drop to 20th place.
The last driver to face a penalty was Roman Stanek, who received a five-second time penalty for his fifth violation. Despite this penalty, Stanek remained in 22nd place.
