Corey LaJoie’s Stunning Exit: Ditches NASCAR Cup Ride for Amazon Prime Broadcasting Gig

Corey LaJoie’s NASCAR career has been a battle against the odds, but in 2025, he made the most shocking and selfless decision of his career—walking away from a full-time Cup Series seat.

For years, LaJoie has been labeled a backmarker, criticized for his inability to land top-tier finishes. But despite the uphill battle, he’s remained a fan favorite, embodying the underdog spirit that keeps NASCAR unpredictable.

Now? He’s stepping away from the driver’s seat—but not because he was forced out. Instead, LaJoie turned down a Cup Series ride at Rick Ware Racing to pursue a game-changing role with Amazon Prime’s NASCAR coverage.

And in an era where streaming giants are revolutionizing live sports, this might just be the smartest move of his career.

Why Did LaJoie Walk Away from NASCAR?

For a guy who bled for the opportunity to race in the Cup Series, LaJoie’s decision to voluntarily step away caught many fans off guard. But in an emotional podcast revelation, he explained why the Amazon Prime opportunity was simply too good to pass up.

“I’ve got this opportunity here coming to fruition with Amazon that I am very interested in.”

LaJoie admitted that for years, he was laser-focused on staying in the Cup Series at any cost—even if it meant racing for less money, with fewer resources, and little chance of winning. But after a brutal 2024 season, something changed.

📌 Average finish below 20th
📌 Spire Motorsports cut ties, bringing in Justin Haley
📌 Rick Ware Racing offered him a seat—but it wasn’t enough

For the first time in his career, LaJoie realized he had a chance to reshape his future, even if it meant putting down the helmet (for now).

“I feel like I’m open now. I have a year on house money to go play with, and this Amazon opportunity is something I’m very interested in.”

Translation? After years of grinding it out for underfunded teams, LaJoie saw a way to stay in NASCAR without running in the back every weekend.

Amazon’s Big Play: NASCAR’s Future on Streaming?

Amazon Prime has been making major moves in live sports, including securing NFL’s Thursday Night Football and joining NASCAR’s $7.7 billion media deal. With NASCAR expanding into streaming, LaJoie will be part of a groundbreaking shift in how fans consume the sport.

💡 So, what will LaJoie actually do at Amazon?
While exact details are under wraps, here’s what we know:

🔹 On-Air Personality – Expect LaJoie to be part of race coverage, possibly as an analyst.
🔹 Behind-the-Scenes Content – He could bring exclusive, garage-area insights that traditional networks don’t cover.
🔹 Streaming Revolution – NASCAR’s push into digital-first sports broadcasting means LaJoie could help bridge the gap between old-school fans and younger audiences.

With his deep racing knowledge, sharp personality, and unfiltered honesty, LaJoie could be the perfect fit to help Amazon reshape NASCAR broadcasting.

From the Back of the Pack to the Front of the Broadcast Booth?

Stepping away from the Cup Series wasn’t an easy call for LaJoie, but considering his struggles in 2024, it might have been the right one.

After all, how many drivers get to transition into a high-profile media career on their own terms?

Will this be a temporary break from racing?
Or has Corey LaJoie just found his true calling outside the cockpit?

Either way, one thing is certain—he’s not leaving NASCAR. He’s just switching lanes.
