Corey Day: NASCAR’s Next Big Thing with Kyle Larson’s Seal of Approval

NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson (5) celebrates after winning the Brickyard 400, Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Imagine receiving a glowing endorsement from Kyle Larson — the NASCAR superstar who has redefined versatility and dominance in motorsports. For Corey Day, that’s now a reality, and it’s a career milestone that screams potential greatness. The 19-year-old sprint car phenom has officially joined Hendrick Motorsports, armed with Larson’s personal stamp of approval and a packed 2025 schedule that promises to put his talents on full display.

A Rising Star with Sprint Racing Credentials

Corey Day’s rise through the motorsport ranks has been nothing short of spectacular. Competing in Kyle Larson’s Kubota High Limit Sprint Car Series, Day turned heads by winning eight features out of 50 starts, earning a fifth-place finish in the standings. That performance, coupled with solid outings in the ARCA Menards Series and Craftsman Truck Series, cemented his reputation as a driver with limitless potential.

Day’s success on dirt tracks hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially by Larson, who told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio:

“He’s probably the only one that…I feel like looks like me almost out there…Same sort of driving style and all that, very versatile, can hop in anything, and can figure it out.”

Impressive Stats Across the Board

  • World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series (2022-2024):
    • 46 starts, 2 wins, 13 top-5s, 20 top-10s
  • USAC National Series:
    • Youngest-ever winner at 15 years old in 2021
  • Late Model Debut:
    • Won with JR Motorsports #88 at Hickory Motor Speedway, leading 98% of laps in the feature race.
  • Truck Series (2024, McAnally-Hilgemann Racing):
    • 4 starts, 3 top-20 finishes.

2025: A Jam-Packed Debut Year

Day’s upcoming schedule is a testament to Hendrick Motorsports’ belief in his ability to handle multiple disciplines. He’ll compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Craftsman Truck Series, and Trans Am Series, all with HendrickCars.com support. This diverse program will allow Day to showcase the versatility that Larson so highly praises.

Larson added:

“When you’re at Hendrick Motorsports, you’re given a great opportunity to showcase your abilities. Hopefully, he can show the world how good I know he is.”

High Praise from the Best in the Business

Larson’s endorsement is not just a pat on the back; it’s a loud declaration to the NASCAR world that Corey Day is the real deal. Rick Hendrick, the mastermind behind the powerhouse HMS team, didn’t need much convincing. A nod from Larson — who called Day the “best prospect out there” — was enough to put the wheels in motion.

What’s Next for Corey Day?

Day is wasting no time preparing for his big year. Currently participating in ARCA’s pre-season testing at Daytona International Speedway, he’s surrounded by 79 competitors all vying for a spot on the big stage. The journey begins in earnest with his Truck Series debut in March, but Day’s confidence in his abilities and support system is palpable.

Reflecting on his preparation and the trust his new team has placed in him, Day remarked:

“I appreciate everyone at JR Motorsports working hard to get a dirt guy comfortable on asphalt.”

Can Day Live Up to the Hype?

With a resume already brimming with achievements, Corey Day is poised to become a breakout star in NASCAR. While stepping into the spotlight at Hendrick Motorsports is no small feat, Day’s blend of raw talent, adaptability, and a mentor like Kyle Larson gives him a solid shot at living up to — or even surpassing — the expectations placed upon him.

As Larson put it,

“He’s going to have a lot of fun this year…and hopefully show the world how good I know he is.”

The 2025 season is shaping up to be Corey Day’s ultimate proving ground, and all eyes will be on the newest member of NASCAR’s most successful team.
