Controversy Unleashed: Franco Colapinto’s Astonishing Escape After Red Flag Overtake

The FIA’s Decision on Franco Colapinto’s Red Flag Pass Revealed!

In a stunning turn of events at the Monaco Grand Prix, Franco Colapinto was caught passing Lance Stroll under red flag conditions during Free Practice 3. The FIA stewards have deliberated on the incident and have made their decision public, absolving Colapinto of any punishment for his actions.

The controversial pass occurred at the Nouvelle Chicane as the session was coming to a close, with Colapinto overtaking Stroll despite the red flags being displayed. This move raised eyebrows and led to an investigation into a potential breach of the FIA International Sporting Code.

After a thorough review utilizing various data sources such as telemetry, video footage, and team radio communications, it was confirmed that Colapinto did pass Stroll after the red flag was shown. However, extenuating circumstances played a crucial role in the stewards’ decision not to penalize the Alpine driver.

One key factor in the investigation was the positioning of the marshal’s post, which was still displaying a blue flag when Colapinto made the pass. Additionally, the stewards noted that Colapinto reacted promptly to the red flag once it was visible to him, adjusting his speed as required by the regulations.

The stewards emphasized that despite the overtake occurring after the red flag signal, Colapinto took immediate and appropriate actions to slow down, considering the relative distance and speed delta between the two cars. Ultimately, the stewards were satisfied that Colapinto had complied with the regulations and no further action was deemed necessary.

This decision stands in contrast to the case of Oliver Bearman, who received a harsher penalty of a 10-place grid drop for passing Carlos Sainz under similar red flag conditions in a previous session. The stewards found that Bearman had been informed of the red flag late and that the dashboard and light panel clearly indicated the red flag well before the overtake.

The outcome of the FIA investigation into Franco Colapinto’s red flag pass has sparked discussions among fans and experts alike, with opinions divided on the stewards’ decision. The Monaco Grand Prix continues to deliver drama both on and off the track, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats as the action unfolds.
