Ironically, the test seemed somewhat restrained. What should have been a hopeful awakening of the Formula 1 season felt more like a disappointment, with the Red Bull team bringing the rain cloud.
Christian Horner’s “problem” has become a burden for Formula 1. Partially fueled by initial leaks (from a Dutch source, naturally) that he was guilty of “aggressive and controlling behavior.” This has led many in the pit lane to question, “Is this really something in our world?”
However, the insinuation has now been elevated to a form of obscure sexual harassment, which is an image no one desires. The Formula 1 Women’s Empowerment Department must be in turmoil and wishing this becomes old news as quickly as possible.
Undoubtedly, the team, the parent company, and their potential 2026 engine partner, Ford, feel the same way. This has resulted in the enthusiastic manufacturer already hinting that the marriage may be canceled if this issue is not resolved quickly.
Unfortunately for Horner, there is only one informant in this story, and they are about to be exposed and criticized. I come to this conclusion based on the fact that the “Good Doctor” is once again engaging with the media, casting doubts on the future of Sergio Perez and appearing like a man who will soon regain his position of power.
Red Bull, Formula One Management (FOM), and the team need to resolve this matter. Sorry, Christian, but it seems like Team Jos is winning, and members of Team Horner should be cautious of an Austrian figure dressed in dark attire and holding a scythe.
Meanwhile, there is tranquility amidst the Red Bull controversy. The RB20 test seemed to follow as expected. Following the script of allowing others to shine, especially Ferrari.
I am sure we have only had a glimpse of their performance potential, with most kept hidden beneath the surface. The whole team exuded confidence and control, quietly going about their tasks, ticking the boxes while Max casually flirted with the top of the leaderboard.
And the award for most disappointing performance goes to… VCARB (formerly known as Alpha Tauri). The RB19.5 will clearly compete at the opposite end of the grid compared to previous years. Horner’s statement that “the two Red Bull teams are separate” is contradictory.
They are as connected as Siamese twins. “The esteemed Doctor” hinted last year that the experiment of independence was coming to an end. The recent announcement that the team will now move “next door” in Milton Keynes only adds to the absurdity of the statement.
As a vigilant member of the neighborhood, McLaren’s Zak Brown stands alone in pointing out this suspicious situation. The pre-season test seems to confirm his concerns. The VCARBs failed to completely hide their significant improvement during testing, and I predict they will consistently finish in the top four this year. Perhaps having a peculiar team name is enough to categorize the VCARBs as unrelated to the Red Bull universe.
However, the biggest uncertainty lies with Mercedes. Their performance in testing was somewhat average, but there is a sense of quiet confidence surrounding them.
Both drivers expressed their satisfaction with the drivability of the W15, and Toto Wolff was visibly reserved in his comments. Does this indicate problems, or have they simply not yet pushed the car to its limit? I suppose we will have to wait and see what the weekend brings.
