Continental transforma janelas do automóvel num ecrã

Displays are now a fundamental part of modern automobiles, and companies in the automotive sector continue to develop screens for all tastes and sizes.

However, Continental revealed at the 2025 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, that displays do not have to be limited to the interiors of cars, and therefore showcased a technology for projecting images onto the vehicle windows.

The system designed to reveal content to users outside the vehicle combines a mini projector with a side window that can be electrically darkened to function as a projection surface.

Thus, when the system is activated, the window completely darkens while images are projected onto it through a device located in the vehicle’s roof lining.

Continental stated that the projector is capable of displaying images and graphics of “high resolution”, which can be easily customized. Another strong point of Continental’s window projection technology is its integration with smart software and the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based app, eTravel.companion.

This application is part of the digital ecosystem of “banbutsu” and analyzes a series of vehicle data, including driving habits, geographical information, weather conditions, and car sensors. With this data, the generated content is highly customizable and can be projected in real-time on the side windows.

“Based on data, learned preferences, and the current situation, the software generates real-time suggestions that can be displayed on the rear windows before the driver or passengers enter the vehicle.”, revealed Continental.

The utility varies depending on the application, but it can be used to display charging information for electric vehicles. Additionally, if the battery is low, the system projects a suggestion for a nearby charging station.

However, Continental revealed that the system can go further by allowing drivers to express their emotions through images on the window, displaying, for example, their football club’s emblem after a significant victory or while heading to watch a game.

Continental announced that with this window projection technology, it is not only expanding the possibilities of interaction with the environment around the vehicle but also creating a personalized experience for each driver and passenger.

The company also stated that it continues to work on the development of this solution, aiming to create even more compact and powerful projection units in the future.
