The individual who sent the email, claiming to be a member of the team, made accusations that deeply offended the Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff. In response, Wolff decided to involve the police to identify the person responsible for the offensive email and hold them accountable for their actions.
During the press conference held by the Formula 1 team bosses on the Friday of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, the content of the email was discussed. Wolff revealed that the matter had been forwarded to the police.
Mercedes conducted an investigation and determined that the email did not originate from the team’s network. Their IT technicians are currently working to trace the originating IP address in an attempt to locate the author.
“Some members of our team are dissatisfied with the deliberate sabotage of Lewis, his car, his tires, and race strategies, as well as the mistreatment he has been subjected to by Toto, George, and others. Toto is acting out of revenge and has cut off communication with Lewis. He is doing everything in his power to retaliate against him. Lewis is being excluded, and there are some unethical activities happening that people need to be aware of. By asking the right questions, the truth will be revealed, as everything is recorded in the data.
“Except for Bono and those of us who support Lewis, there are others who are on a dangerous path that could put Lewis, other drivers, and even the public at risk. Implementing a strategy of cold tires is equivalent to signing a death sentence. Toto and George, be cautious and act appropriately. Not all of us are willing to be part of your unfair and unprofessional campaign to destroy Lewis for your own personal satisfaction.”
When asked about the email by reporters in Barcelona on Friday, Wolff replied: “I have no idea what some of these conspiracy theorists and crazy people out there are thinking. Lewis has been part of this team for 12 years. We have a friendship. We trust each other. We are determined to win and end this journey on a high note. We want to celebrate our relationship.
“And if you don’t believe in any of this, then you can believe that we are committed to winning the World Constructors’ Championship. And a crucial aspect to winning the World Constructors’ Championship is ensuring that both cars are successful. So, for all those irrational people out there… seek professional help,” declared the Mercedes boss.
