Cole Custer Issues Stern Warning to AJ Allmendinger After Heat Race Clash at Bowman Gray

The legendary “Madhouse” at Bowman Gray Stadium lived up to its reputation in the NASCAR Busch Light Clash Heat 4, where Cole Custer and AJ Allmendinger got into an early-race scrap that left both drivers on the outside looking in for the main event.

Custer, who is making his full-time return to the NASCAR Cup Series with the new Haas Factory Team, found himself in the middle of a heated on-track incident just six laps into the race. As he battled for 5th place, Allmendinger, also making a Cup Series comeback with Kaulig Racing, got tight going into Turn 3 and sent Custer into the wall. The impact caused Custer to bounce back, spinning Allmendinger around and setting off a chaotic moment that shook up the running order.

Custer’s Heated Warning: “This Is Going to Be a Problem”

Both drivers failed to advance, with Custer finishing 9th and Allmendinger 7th, missing the top five cutoff for automatic qualification into Sunday’s 200-lap Clash finale. While the two had a post-race discussion, Custer made it clear that he wouldn’t forget this run-in.

“I am okay with letting it go because of how much of a mess this really is. But I told him if it happens in the future, it’s going to be a major problem. We’ll just go on to the next one.”

Allmendinger owned up to the incident, admitting he simply got tight in the corner—but the damage was done.

Could This Spark a New Rivalry?

Custer’s firm warning signals that this isn’t the last we’ll hear of this tension, especially considering the pressure both drivers are under.

🔥 Custer’s Situation: After four years away from full-time Cup racing, he’s back with the brand-new Haas Factory Team, meaning every race is critical for proving the team’s competitive edge. He needs results—and fast.

🔥 Allmendinger’s Situation: His return to Kaulig Racing’s Cup lineup comes with high expectations, but he’s known for his aggressive short-track style, which has rubbed plenty of drivers the wrong way in the past.

With 36 points-paying races ahead, don’t be surprised if Custer and Allmendinger cross paths again—and if payback is still on the table.

Custer Has One More Shot to Make the Clash Finale

Despite the setback, Custer still has one final chance to qualify via the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), a 75-lap shootout where only the top two finishers will advance. The final 23rd spot will go to the highest-ranking unqualified driver from the 2024 Cup Series standings.

But the LCQ is stacked with talent, including:

🏁 Ryan Blaney (2023 NASCAR Champion)
🏁 Kyle Larson (2021 NASCAR Champion)
🏁 John Hunter Nemechek (who also had a heated clash with Ryan Preece earlier)

Will Custer’s Payback Wait, or Will This Rivalry Heat Up Immediately?

With emotions running high at Bowman Gray, Custer’s warning might be a preview of fireworks to come—especially if he and Allmendinger battle for a crucial transfer spot in the LCQ.

Will Custer let it slide, or is this just the beginning of a season-long feud? Stay tuned. 🔥
