The journey towards electric mobility is not only made with the introduction of 100% electric models, as the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom has already announced that in 2024, all old models participating in the “Goodwood Revival” will have to use synthetic fuels.
Goodwood will therefore require participants in the 2024 event to use a fuel with a minimum of 70% “sustainable components”, according to the current FIA requirements for sustainable fuel.
This type of fuel does not require modifications to the cars and does not affect performance, according to the organizers of the event, but theoretically has lower global CO2 emissions than conventional gasoline.
It is worth noting that in the 2024 edition, synthetic fuels were tested in the “Fordwater Trophy” race, which featured a grid of Porsche 911s from before 1966, all powered by this type of fuel, and in which drivers such as the 2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button, as well as former F1 driver Mark Webber and Tom Kristensen, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans nine times, six of them consecutively, participated.
