The British Grand Prix at Silverstone will have a unique twist this year, as the entire MotoGP grid will be using retro liveries to celebrate the 75th season of the series. Each team will reveal their special colors in a televised ceremony before the race weekend in August. Teams have been instructed to draw inspiration from their own racing history and choose vintage color schemes that will be used during the three-day event at Silverstone. The BMW safety cars will also feature historical designs, adding to the nostalgic vibe of the event. The new bikes will be on display live in the Silverstone paddock, with TV coverage and fan access as part of the fundraising event ‘Day of Champions’ organized by MotoGP’s charity partner, Two Wheels for Life.
Honda and Yamaha have obvious choices for their retro liveries, with Honda likely using their iconic red and silver scheme and Yamaha opting for their iconic speed block colors. Ducati, on the other hand, may surprise fans by bringing back their chrome silver scheme, reminiscent of their original racing colors. Satellite teams LCR and Gresini also have the opportunity to pay homage to their most successful liveries from the past. Gresini has already honored their late founder with a tribute to their championship-winning bike from 1987, while LCR may modify their already retro Castrol Honda scheme or explore the personal history of team boss Lucio Cecchinello. Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team has plenty of options to choose from, with colors from his own career that would be perfect for the occasion.
