Citroën, in partnership with the French company SPH3, specialized in fuels and smart sensors, presented, in a pioneering initiative, how the Diesel engine of the Berlingo can easily adapt to burn hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). The two French companies demonstrated the advantages of the formula at Stellantis’ Spanish factory in Vigo.
HVO, the proper name of the fuel, is produced from used cooking oil and other animal fats, as an alternative to traditional fuels, for both private and professional customers, as it allows for an effective reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions without requiring any modifications to vehicle engines. The HVO Aurora Program initiative, by Stellantis and SP3H, monitors the use of HVO as fuel, with real-time control of CO2 emissions. According to the consortium, the initiative demonstrates the potential of this renewable resource in passenger and light commercial vehicles already on the roads, as it does not require changes to existing fleets or infrastructures.
The promotional tour across Europe will visit other key locations, and the Berlingo will be accompanied by a van (Ducato) from another brand of the company (Fiat), to demonstrate the viability of a solution aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. It should be noted that the entire Stellantis range is compatible with this solution.
