Christopher Bell Sets New Standard in NASCAR with Clean Racing Approach: Kyle Busch Applauds and Adapts

DEWALT Toyota driver Christopher Bell (20) exits turn 6A during the NASCAR Cup Series EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Austin.

A seismic shift has been observed in the world of NASCAR with the recent performance of Christopher Bell, who is swiftly climbing the ranks and gaining a reputation as a formidable competitor. Just a week ago, former two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch, was engulfed in frustration over Carson Hocevar’s aggressive tactics in Atlanta. Known for his fiery temper, Busch is infamous for not taking any affronts lying down.

However, during the recent race at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), an unexpected incident occurred. Busch found himself head-to-head with Christopher Bell – the driver who had spun him out the previous year. Tensions ran high and the stage was set for a showdown. Yet, despite multiple opportunities to retaliate, Bell upheld the spirit of clean racing, earning Busch’s approval.

This display of sportsmanship didn’t go unnoticed. Bell’s performance at COTA caught the eye of NASCAR veteran Jeff Burton, who not only commended Bell’s driving but also his maturity, setting him apart from the pack. On the latest episode of Inside the Race, Burton praised Bell’s mental toughness, stating, “I think he is on the positive side of things. I just see it in his eyes, man. He’s mature, he’s fast, the moment’s not too big for him.”

Bell’s approach has been a breath of fresh air amidst the recent trend of aggressive driving. Last week, Carson Hocevar’s unrepentant attitude towards his aggressive moves irked many. Yet, Bell’s example showed that a different approach could still lead to success.

In 2024, a clash between Busch and Bell ended differently. Bell spun Busch, triggering one of the most heated feuds of the year. Fast forward to 2025, and the scenario was significantly different. Despite not securing a win, Busch commended Bell for his racing approach, saying, “I’ll give Christopher credit… He did a great job working me over and just doing it the right way.”

However, the praise did not end there. Busch also commended his Richard Childress Racing team, reflecting a renewed optimism. Despite a tough 2024 season and a 60-race winless streak since his last victory in 2023, Busch is not ready to throw in the towel. His 5th-place finish at COTA and a top-10 finish in Atlanta demonstrate that his team is on the right track.

Further fueling his optimism is the unwavering support from sponsors like Rebel Bourbon, Zone, and Chevrolet. This faith in his ability to bounce back, coupled with a strong team, suggests it’s not a matter of if, but when Busch will return to Victory Lane. If the recent performance at COTA is any indication, that moment may be closer than anticipated.

The recent developments in NASCAR signal a return to blue-collar racing, characterized by hard yet clean competition. Christopher Bell’s approach is a testament to this and serves as a reminder that aggression is not the only path to victory. His rise in the sport has been a reflection of not just skill, but also patience and a steadfast belief in clean racing. This new mindset in NASCAR racing may indeed be the dawn of a new era.
