Riding high on the thrill of victory, Christopher Bell and his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team clinched a hat-trick of NASCAR Cup Series triumphs on Sunday. It was a battle to remember as Bell jostled for the lead with teammate Denny Hamlin, eventually emerging victorious in a nail-biting finish at the Shriners Children’s 500.

The race culminated in an electrifying head-to-head showdown between Bell and Hamlin. Although Hamlin was in the lead as the white flag waved, the final lap saw both drivers in a side-by-side clash off Turn 2. The adrenaline-infused duel continued right until the finish line, with Bell seizing the advantage in Turn 4, where Hamlin veered too far wide.

Bell’s triumphant streak includes recent victories at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Circuit of The Americas. This latest win at Phoenix is his second in a row at this spring event and his third consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victory. Bell has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in 2025, being the only driver to have clinched multiple victories this year. He’s also the first to win three consecutive races in the Next Gen era, a feat last achieved by Kyle Larson in 2021.

In his own words, Bell told Fox Sports, “Whenever you’re sitting there dreaming it up, that’s about as ugly as it gets. You put the red tires on, and you’re like, ‘Alright, what I don’t want to happen is go like 20 or 30 laps and get a yellow,’ and that happened. Then we went 10 more laps and had another yellow, and it was just all about who could get clear on the restart.”

Bell’s dominance was evident throughout the race, having led an impressive 106 out of 312 laps, and also securing victory in the second stage. Hamlin, despite finishing second, put up a commendable fight, overcoming setbacks to secure a good position late in the day. He finished eighth in the first stage and sixth in the second.

The final eight laps of the race were marred by a caution triggered by Ty Gibbs’ mechanical mishap, which led to a collision with the wall in Turn 3. This paved the way for a two-lap sprint to the finish, where Bell and Hamlin restarted on the front row, followed by Josh Berry and Larson on the second.

The top five finishers included Bell, Hamlin, and Larson, with Berry and Chris Buescher securing fourth and fifth positions respectively. Berry’s fourth-place finish marks the best for Wood Brothers Racing in their history at Phoenix Raceway.

The race saw multiple shifts in positions, with 17 lead changes among six drivers. The likes of William Byron, Alex Bowman, Kyle Busch, Zane Smith, and Chase Elliott made it to the top 10, while Joey Logano, who showed early promise, ended up in the 13th position due to a penalty.

The race was not without its fair share of mishaps, including a seven-car crash midway through the second stage. This unfortunate event ended the race prematurely for Shane van Gisbergen, Cole Custer, Brad Keselowski, Justin Haley, Chase Briscoe, Carson Hocevar, and Riley Herbst, making up one of the 10 caution flags raised during the afternoon.

In conclusion, Bell’s victory marked a thrilling day in the NASCAR Cup Series, highlighting his growing dominance in the sport and setting up an exciting season ahead.
