Christopher Bell Eyes Championship Glory Despite a Key Weakness: “I Don’t Have the Same Mojo as Last Year”

As the NASCAR season barrels toward its finale, Christopher Bell has positioned himself as one of the top contenders, yet he’s facing a surprising challenge compared to last year. Bell, the Joe Gibbs Racing star and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) ace, is one of the few drivers who’s remained in the Championship-4 conversation across the first two Next-Gen Cup seasons. With a solid 29-point cushion heading into Martinsville, Bell is in prime position to reach the Cup finale for a third consecutive season—if he can overcome one key weakness.

Bell has been a model of consistency, notching top-10 finishes in nearly every playoff race, including three top-5s in his last outings. But what’s missing? Wins. Bell has expressed frustration over not converting his strong playoff performances into victories, something he admits has shaken his confidence.

“I wasn’t as fast as some of the other guys,” Bell reflected after his fourth-place finish at Homestead. “There were times in the race where I felt like I could contend, but I couldn’t consistently do it.” While he’s thrilled with the close competition among the final eight, Bell knows his chances to seal a win are dwindling—and he’s pinpointed restarts as his Achilles’ heel.

In a candid admission, Bell shared, “I just didn’t have the mojo I had last year on restarts. There are always a couple cars better than me.” It’s a striking realization for Bell, who’s typically one of the most aggressive and calculated drivers on the restart.

Despite the setback, Bell is heading to Martinsville with renewed confidence after a tough Homestead race that, ironically, left him feeling more positive than his runner-up finish in Las Vegas. “I feel a lot better today than I did after Las Vegas,” Bell shared, describing the Martinsville showdown as “a war.”

With his No. 20 Toyota showing strong promise and Bell’s determination only strengthening, he’s ready to rise to the challenge at Martinsville—a track notorious for high stakes and hard racing. “It’s gonna be a battle, and that’s the way it should be,” Bell said.

Can Bell harness his grit, improve his restarts, and solidify his spot in the Championship-4? NASCAR fans won’t want to miss the high-stakes action as he prepares to lock horns with a field of desperate contenders, all battling for a coveted spot in the grand finale.
