The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) announced this Wednesday, December 27, that between December 15 and 26, it recorded 4852 accidents, resulting in 17 fatalities, four more than in the same period last year, and 1492 injuries, 137 more than in the same period of 2022.
In a statement, ANSR reveals that “compared to the same days in 2022, accidents showed a decrease of 6%, while the total number of victims increased by 10.3%”.
During the period under analysis, the authorities monitored 7.2 million vehicles, both in person by the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP), and through radar control by the GNR, PSP, and the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR).
Out of the total number of vehicles monitored, 48.9 thousand infractions were recorded, mainly related to speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, which led to the arrest of 681 people.
“Out of the vehicles monitored by speed radar, 29.8 thousand were speeding, with 7.6 thousand detected by GNR and PSP radars and 22.2 thousand by ANSR radars,” the statement adds.
