Campanha “Cinto-me vivo” regista mais de 11 mil infrações numa semana

The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) revealed that during the Christmas and New Year operation, which took place between December 15, 2023 and January 2, 2024, there were 26 deaths resulting from over 7000 accidents.

According to the balance of the road safety campaign “The best present is to be present”, revealed this Thursday, January 4, there were 7072 accidents (689 less than in the previous year), resulting in 26 fatalities (three more than in the same period last year), 125 serious injuries (six more) and 2049 minor injuries (184 more).

“During the same period, 11.5 million vehicles were inspected, both in person by the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP), and through radar control by the GNR, PSP, and ANSR, representing a 57% increase compared to the previous year, when 7.3 million vehicles were inspected. Of the total vehicles inspected, 78.6 thousand infractions were recorded.”.

Regarding speed, 11.3 million vehicles were inspected, of which 10.7 million were inspected by SINCRO – National Speed Control System (94.7% of the total), under the responsibility of ANSR.

Of the vehicles inspected by speed radar, 45.4 thousand were traveling at excessive speed, of which 12.0 thousand were detected by GNR and PSP radars and 33.4 thousand by ANSR radars, resulting in an infraction rate (total number of infractions/total number of vehicles inspected) of 0.40%, lower than the rate recorded in the previous year (0.41%).

Regarding driving under the influence of alcohol, 140 thousand drivers were subjected to alcohol testing, of which 2509 had a blood alcohol level above the maximum allowed, resulting in a total of 1260 arrests (blood alcohol level equal to or higher than 1.2g/l) and 1249 traffic offenses (blood alcohol level below 1.2g/l).
