The sprint races were originally introduced in Formula 1 in 2021, as a format applied only to a portion of the season. This year, six of these races were introduced, but it is a concept that is still in its early stages. And Christian Horner believes it can be made more interesting.
Quoted by the website planetf1.com, the team principal of Red Bull argued that we need to seek to add excitement to the sprint races, while remaining open to changing and adjusting the format:
“I think we need to add a bit more risk. Maybe do a reverse of the top ten [on the starting grid] or something like that, but you have to add enough points to make it worthwhile for the drivers to really fight. It still doesn’t feel the same when you win a sprint race. Obviously, it doesn’t mean as much as a Grand Prix, but I think we’re in a process where we need to be open to change and evolution.
