Christian Horner optimistic about the new F1 regulations in 2026

The team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner, expressed optimism about finding a middle ground in the F1 regulations in 2026. Horner highlighted the importance of teams reaching compromises when it comes to the new rules. According to him, these compromises will be evident among the teams.

When discussing the possible participation in the 2026 regulations, Horner quoted a phrase from the founder of Lotus. In a humorous way, he suggested that teams will evaluate the rules before committing to participate. This implies that teams may prioritize their own interests instead of working together for the benefit of the sport.

Horner emphasized the need for flexibility in the rules, allowing each car to have a unique design. This would ensure that the track features a variety of different cars, instead of all looking identical.

The team principal of Red Bull also discussed the changes in F1 with the new regulations. He mentioned the budget cap rule, which limits team spending. Despite this limitation, Horner believes that there is still room for creativity in engineering. He argues that Formula 1 should not only focus on batteries and fuel, but rather on the combination of various components of the car, such as the chassis and the engine. This way, teams without a faster engine can compensate with a better chassis design, and vice versa.

Horner believes that there should be a balance in the sport’s rules. He expresses confidence in the understanding of this balance by those working with the FIA, mentioning Tombazis in particular. Horner hopes that Tombazis will prioritize practical and reasonable regulations.

In summary, Christian Horner defends fair rules and practices that allow each team to showcase their unique perspective in car creation. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balance between improvements and challenges, ensuring that different cars are present on the track to maintain excitement among fans.
