Christian Horner Breaks Silence on Shocking Red Bull Exit: “It Was a Real Sense of Loss”

In a jaw-dropping revelation, Christian Horner has opened up about his dramatic exit as team principal of Red Bull Racing, a position he held for an astonishing two decades. The motorsport world was left reeling last summer when the news broke in July that Horner was ousted from the powerhouse team, following a whirlwind year of highs and lows both on and off the track. Now, in an exclusive interview for Season 8 of the blockbuster Netflix series Drive to Survive, Horner shares his candid thoughts on the event that left him feeling like he’d been served a “s*** sandwich.”

Expressing his emotions, Horner said, “I feel a real sense of loss and hurt. It was all rather sudden. I didn’t really get the chance to say a proper goodbye. I never imagined to be in this position.” His words paint a picture of shock and betrayal, as he grapples with the abrupt end to a career that was not only his job but also his passion.

But who does Horner hold accountable for this seismic shift in his life? With rampant speculation swirling about the true reasons behind his dismissal, he’s quick to clear the air regarding his star driver, Max Verstappen, and Verstappen's father, Jos. “His father has never been my biggest fan,” Horner admitted, referencing Jos's outspoken criticism in the past. “But I don’t believe the Verstappens were responsible in any way.”

So, who did he believe orchestrated this shocking decision? Horner has a theory: “I think this was a decision made by Oliver Mintzlaff, with Helmut Marko advising from the sideline.” He pointed to the significant changes within the organization following the death of team founder Dietrich Mateschitz, suggesting that his own influence may have been viewed as too great in the shifting corporate landscape.

As for his future in Formula 1, Horner is not contemplating retirement just yet. Rumors are swirling about a possible return to the sport, with the likes of Ferrari and Aston Martin reportedly interested in his expertise. However, it seems that Alpine is emerging as the frontrunner for his next chapter, especially as he is linked to investors eager to acquire a stake in the team. “If I do return, it would likely be in a different role,” he noted, hinting that his days as a team principal may be behind him.

Fans of F1 will not want to miss Season 8 of Drive to Survive, which launches this Friday with all episodes available for binge-watching. With explosive insights and behind-the-scenes drama, this season promises to be one of the most riveting yet. Buckle up, because Christian Horner's story is far from over!
