Christian Horner reveals Max Verstappen’ standout ‘race’ – Nine Wins, a Near-Impossible Comeback, and a Fourth Consecutive F1 Title

ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - DECEMBER 07: Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing talks with Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner in the garage during final practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi at Yas Marina Circuit on December 07, 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In a season where Red Bull’s RB20 lagged behind its competitors, Max Verstappen defied the odds to claim his fourth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship in 2024. With nine Grand Prix wins, eight pole positions, and four sprint race victories, Verstappen not only secured his legacy but demonstrated why he is a once-in-a-generation talent.

Christian Horner Hails Verstappen’s Mastery in 2024

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner was full of praise for the Dutch driver, calling his 2024 performance one of Verstappen’s finest campaigns. Despite a car that struggled to match the dominance of McLaren’s MCL38, Verstappen showcased an unparalleled ability to adapt and overcome.

“I think he’s been absolutely outstanding this year,” Horner said. “To achieve what he’s done—nine victories, eight pole positions, four sprint race wins—and to have won the championship in a car that’s been difficult to tame, it’s just stunning. His performance in Brazil was, without a doubt, one of his very, very best.”

The Brazil Masterpiece

The Sao Paulo Grand Prix was the pinnacle of Verstappen’s season. Starting 17th on the grid in wet conditions, the Dutchman carved through the field with surgical precision, culminating in a jaw-dropping victory at Interlagos. The race left fans and pundits alike marveling at Verstappen’s relentless drive and tactical brilliance.

Battling through a treacherous 71 laps, Verstappen outclassed a strong Alpine duo who completed the podium. It was a race that epitomized his resilience and cemented his status as the driver of the season.

The Best of Four Championships?

Horner didn’t shy away from calling the 2024 title Verstappen’s most impressive yet. “Of his four championships so far, this one really stands out,” Horner remarked. Unlike the dominance of prior years, this season pushed Verstappen to the limit, with McLaren’s relentless challenge taking the title fight deep into the season.

Lando Norris, who emerged as Verstappen’s closest rival, kept the championship alive until Las Vegas. However, Verstappen’s ability to outpace competitors despite Red Bull’s challenges proved decisive.

2025: The Most Competitive Season Yet?

With the performance gap between the top teams shrinking, Verstappen faces an uphill battle in 2025. Red Bull will need to address the RB20’s shortcomings to remain competitive against McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes, all of whom have made significant gains.

“The scary part is that Max keeps getting better,” Horner noted. “Even in a car that wasn’t at the level of the MCL38, he found ways to win. But next year will be even tougher, and he’ll have to be at his absolute best again.”

A Legend in the Making

At just 27 years old, Verstappen’s dominance shows no signs of slowing. As he gears up for another grueling season, the motorsport world watches with bated breath. Can Verstappen continue to outshine his rivals in what promises to be the fiercest F1 season in recent memory? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Max Verstappen is redefining what it means to be a champion.
