Christian Horner Quashes Speculation Over Imminent Red Bull F1 Driver Swap Amid Yuki Tsunoda’s Impressive Form

Amidst the high-octane drama of the Formula 1 2025 season, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has firmly quashed the swirling rumors of a potential driver swap involving Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda. The speculations, that have been doing the rounds since the conclusion of the Chinese Grand Prix, have been chalked up to paddock chatter by a nonplussed Horner.

Lawson, the New Zealander prodigy and Red Bull’s latest addition, has unfortunately had a rocky start to his Red Bull journey. His debut season has been marred by a string of Q1 exits and a conspicuous absence of points in the first two rounds. On the other side of the equation, Tsunoda, the promising Japanese driver, has been hitting his stride with Racing Bulls, consistently breaking into the top 10 qualifiers. However, team strategies have been the only speed bump in his quest for point finishes.

Tsunoda has repeatedly expressed his ambitions of securing a seat with Red Bull. His performance has not gone unnoticed, with Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s senior advisor, commending Tsunoda’s current form and maturity in an interview with Autosport. Marko highlighted the driver’s shift in approach and management, suggesting that the changes were paying off.

Despite the rumors hinting at an imminent swap possibly as soon as the next round in Japan, Horner has stood firm, supporting Lawson and dismissing such speculation. He emphasized that the conjecture was purely speculative at this stage, and reiterated his belief in Lawson’s potential which, he admitted, was not being fully realized at present.

Horner was also quick to defend Lawson from the media pressure that’s been building around him. He stressed that Lawson’s recent struggles did not detract from his driving capabilities, and Red Bull was committed to helping him navigate through these trying times.

As the Red Bull team grapples with the performance issues of their RB21 car – a challenge even for the likes of seasoned Max Verstappen – their primary focus is to aid Lawson in coming to terms with the car. Horner expressed empathy for Lawson’s situation, acknowledging the immense pressure he is under and assured that Red Bull would do its utmost to support him.

Despite Tsunoda’s keen interest in a Red Bull switch, Lawson, the new kid on the block, remains a vital part of the Red Bull’s plan. And while the specter of speculation continues to hover, Horner has sent a clear message: it’s business as usual at Red Bull, and Lawson is here to stay.
