Red Bull has officially extended Sergio Perez’s contract for the next two seasons. The Mexican driver has been with the Austrian team since 2021. However, Checo has often struggled to deliver consistent results. Nevertheless, Milton Keynes continued to trust the 34-year-old driver. The team boss opened up about this decision.

There were speculations that Red Bull could hire Carlos Sainz as a replacement for Sergio Perez. However, recent reports indicated that Checo was on track to secure a new contract. It was believed to be the right time to announce the 2025 Red Bull lineup. The Austrian team has been pleased with the performances of the Mexican driver.

Horner emphasized the importance of continuity and stability in Milton Keynes. The British highlighted that Perez and Verstappen formed the most successful driver duo in Red Bull’s history. They secured a 1-2 in the championship last season.

Sergio Perez achieved several second-place finishes early in 2024. However, he has not been able to maintain that form in the recent races. This could pose a significant threat to Red Bull in the championship, as Ferrari and McLaren have returned to the top of the grid.

Christian Horner acknowledged that Perez has had some tough races. The Red Bull team boss assured that Sergio Perez will regain his proven form and performance, as the team has already witnessed in the past. Horner even suggested that the tough races were due to the inevitable convergence on the grid.

Certainly, Sergio Perez’s future is now secured with a two-year contract at Red Bull. The Mexican driver can now fully focus on his performances on the track. This may allow the 34-year-old driver to race freely and recover after some tough races. However, it remains to be seen how Perez will fare in Montreal this weekend.
