Sergio Perez’s performance in his last three races has resulted in just four points. The Canadian Grand Prix weekend had its ups and downs. On one side of the grid, a driver secured pole position in his car, while on the other side, another driver qualified in a disappointing 16th place. This streak of bad luck continued during the race, when the Mexican driver spun his RB20 and completely destroyed it. This led his boss to express his disappointment and state that the team suffered significant damage.
It was expected that Red Bull would dominate the 2024 season and win both titles. At the beginning, the RB20 car seemed to be in a league of its own. However, as the season progressed, the team hit a development limit and fell behind its rivals. Nevertheless, Max Verstappen showed the power of the RB20 by winning the Canadian Grand Prix in challenging weather conditions.
Unfortunately for Red Bull, Sergio Perez has not been able to match his teammate’s performance. Christian Horner described it as a terrible weekend for the Mexican driver. He was eliminated in the first qualifying session and faced difficulties during the race, remaining stuck at the back of the pack. To make matters worse, he crashed into the barriers and had to retire from the race, receiving a three-place grid penalty for the next race in Barcelona. Horner emphasized the significant damage that this disappointing performance caused to the team.
As mentioned earlier, Red Bull’s rivals have caught up in terms of performance. This has raised concerns in Milton Keynes and put pressure on both drivers to perform at their best. Despite the urgency, only one driver has been able to handle the pressure, leaving the team at a disadvantage in the constructors’ standings.
Horner explained why it is crucial for Perez to regain his form. He stated that performance differences are minimal and that other teams, like and , have advanced in the development race and are closing in on Red Bull. Therefore, it is essential for Perez to overcome these poor weekends and get back to his exceptional form.
Fortunately for Red Bull, Ferrari had a disastrous weekend in Canada. This prevented the Italian team from reducing the gap in the constructors’ standings and allowed Red Bull to increase their advantage by 49 points before heading to Barcelona.
