Christian Horner criticizes McLaren for ‘incorrect and unjust’ comments about Max Verstappen

Christian Horner has revealed a grim reality for Red Bull Racing as the team struggles to maintain its dominance in the 2024 Formula 1 season. The once unbeatable squad has found itself trapped in a frustrating cycle where every attempt to fix a problem with their car only seems to create new issues, jeopardizing their championship lead.

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza served as a harsh reminder that Red Bull no longer has the fastest car on the grid, a stark contrast to their pre-summer break form. With McLaren now just eight points behind in the Constructors’ Championship, the pressure is mounting on the Austrian team to find solutions—and fast.

Horner explained that the core issue lies in the car’s balance, a problem that has been haunting them since the early part of the season. Even during their race-winning streaks, Max Verstappen had pointed out that the car’s balance was far from perfect. The imbalance makes the car difficult to handle, forcing the team to push the tires beyond their limits, which in turn exacerbates the situation.

This has led Red Bull into a vicious cycle: when they attempt to address one issue, it often creates another. This never-ending loop of problems has made it nearly impossible to find a lasting solution. Both Verstappen and Sergio Perez are grappling with these balance issues, which Horner admits are critical to resolve if the team wants to stay ahead.

The Monza circuit laid bare the car’s deficiencies compared to last year’s dominant performance. It highlighted specific areas where Red Bull is falling short, making it clear that without urgent fixes, their lead in the championship is at serious risk.

As the next race in Baku approaches, Red Bull faces a pivotal moment. They must improve the car’s balance to prevent McLaren from overtaking them in the standings. The team’s fans are anxiously waiting to see if Red Bull can bounce back from these setbacks and provide Verstappen with a race-winning machine once again.

Horner’s candid admission underscores the urgency of the situation, as Red Bull’s once unassailable dominance now hangs in the balance.
