Chinese Grand Prix 2025: Lando Norris Sets the Pace in First Practice Session

The Chinese Grand Prix, the first Sprint weekend of the 2025 F1 championship, kicked off with a single hour of free practice, featuring a whirlwind of activity on the track. The hour was dominated by Lando Norris, who set the pace, outperforming Charles Leclerc, and many others.

The practice hour saw drivers push their limits, with most clocking in double-digit laps midway through the session. This flurry of activity on the Shanghai circuit was particularly noticeable among the top performers, and the young guns didn’t disappoint.

Lando Norris, in particular, left a significant mark on the timesheet, topping the Free Practice 1 (FP1) at the Chinese Grand Prix. Being the fastest on the track, Norris showcased his stellar driving skills, setting a high benchmark for the other drivers.

While Norris hogged the limelight, Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli also made a notable impact, driving the most laps during the practice hour. With 27 laps under his belt, Antonelli finished 0.454 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc, a feat that puts a spotlight on his potential for the upcoming race.

Leclerc, after trailing Antonelli, finished in second place with Oscar Piastri hot on his heels, just two-tenths of a second behind. The competition among the drivers was intense, and the narrow margins highlight the level of competition expected in the main event.

Lewis Hamilton, representing Ferrari, finished in fourth place, albeit seven-tenths slower than Norris. Hamilton’s performance, coupled with admirable efforts by George Russell and Nico Hulkenberg, who completed the top six, sets up an exciting premise for the Grand Prix.

However, the practice hour was not without its disappointments. Max Verstappen, a renowned name in the racing circuit, unfortunately, ended up in the 16th position. After aborting his soft tyre run, Verstappen’s performance was not up to his usual standards, raising questions about his form for the forthcoming race.

As the curtain falls on the practice hour, the stage is set for an electrifying Chinese Grand Prix. The performances during the practice hour have set the bar high, and fans are eagerly anticipating an action-packed race.
