The Chinese Geely Holding, the main owner of Volvo Cars, Lotus, and other car brands, has appointed a new chairman of the board of Geely Sweden Holding, who will oversee the European operations of the Chinese group, replacing the company’s founder, the Chinese Eric Li.
In a statement, Geely announced that the choice fell on the Danish Lone Fonss Schroder, without, however, revealing the reasons for this change. Last year, he called for a greater strategic focus at Geely to improve synergies and eliminate internal competition.
So far, this strategic focus has led to the merging of teams and the restructuring of some of its brands, such as Zeekr, Geely Auto, and Lynk & Co, as well as the transfer or dismissal of some executives and board members from the Swedish brands Volvo Cars and Polestar.
The loss-making Polestar, of which Li is the majority owner through Geely Sweden and private holdings, will also replace two members of the board of directors of Geely at a shareholders’ meeting that will take place on June 30.
Lone Fonss Schroder will leave the board of directors of Volvo Cars, of which he has been a member since 2010, to take on the new roles.
